What To Expect On Our Faerie Mainstage
In the latest Other Happenings Blog I had the pleasure of speaking with our new Theatre Connections Manager, Mason Absher. Absher is a 2011 graduate of the University of the Indianapolis and has been interested and practicing theatre for over 23 years. We asked him a few questions about our upcoming mainstage play that will be performed at Faeries, Sprites, & Lights. We wanted to get an idea of what was happening behind the scenes to know what we can expect at the upcoming event.

Sara: “For starters, how does the play theme get chosen every year? Is it research, combining ideas?”
Mason: “A combination of research and kicking around different concepts. Faeries, Sprites, & Lights is focused on inventors this year. We created a variation of the Elves and the Shoemaker. Again, maker, creator and inventors are featured in this play.”

Sara: “What goes into making the play a success?”
Mason: “A few things–writing and re-writing the script before even adding actors. Once, they’re added making the story as entertaining as possible and getting their feedback. Bringing in the cast lets us see how the jokes are landing and if the story makes sense.”
Sara: “What’s something that is happening behind the scenes you would want people to know?”
Mason: “How dedicated my actors are! I have given them a lot of techniques to work with, but they have made it their own.”

Sara: “What did you enjoy most when creating this play for Faeries, Sprites, & Lights?”
Mason: “Finding ways to reach every member of the audience. Thinking about all ages, creating something for boys and girls, moms, dads, aunts, and uncles. It was about finding a balance of what works for everyone.”
