GIS Horticulture Intern
Purpose and Development Opportunities
Provide GIS maintenance, support and training to the Horticulture Department, while gaining hands on experience working in our diverse public gardens. Increase your plant knowledge of perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs. Develop an understanding of the role of GIS in a public garden and the work involved in maintaining one. Participant will also complete an independent project based on individual interest and Minnetrista’s needs.
Reporting Supervisor and Training Provided By
Horticulture Manager, Fulltime Gardening staff
Length of Appointment
100 hours minimum
8-12 hours per week preferred, other schedules may be considered
Stipend upon completion of an internship project, amount based on project scope and hours worked
Essential duties and responsibilities
– Accomplish an independent project
– Implement proper GIS map maintenance techniques
– Expand plant knowledge
– Other duties may be assigned
The requirements of the job include the ability to update, maintains GIS Map, and to work independently. An interest in horticulture and gardening is a Plus. Must be reliable and work well with both staff and volunteers.
The work environment is a typical office environment with a desk, computer, phone, and files; however, must be able to move about the entire Minnetrista 40-acre campus in all weather conditions.
