Ways to Volunteer:

Education

Do you enjoy working with children and having fun? Discover many of our exciting volunteer opportunities during school breaks! It’s here that volunteers participate in and help with a wide variety of unique workshops, ranging from arts and crafts and jewelry making, to cooking, nature, and games.

Gardens & Horticulture

Do you enjoy working outdoors? Then sign up to volunteer with the horticulture crew! Work alongside our resident gardeners and other volunteers to assist the team with large planting projects and all sorts of outdoor projects. Volunteers are a huge help to the horticulture team and are guaranteed to learn as they serve!

There is always opportunity to work in urban garden spaces—small space gardening of edible plants. The Orchard Garden group maintains these sort of spaces by planting, weeding, and harvesting.

If you don’t have the time to commit regularly, or if you’re looking for an introduction to what volunteering with the horticulture team will look like, sign up for one of our one day volunteer events! Horticulture Volunteer Days allow volunteers to come to Minnetrista for a day and help maintain our lively gardens! Whether cleaning and preparing soil for future seeds or digging and planting, there’s always plenty of work to be done! All the dates for Horticulture Volunteer Days are listed in the Calendar of Events.

Programs & Special Events

Create meaningful experiences for visitors during events such as Family Adventure Days, Twilight on the Boulevard, Enchanted Luminaria, Garden Fair, Summer Stage Fest, or Faeries, Sprites and Lights.

Library, Collections & Archives

It’s all about the details. Do you enjoy history and heritage? Minnetrista’s Collections department welcomes you to help preserve the heritage of East Central Indiana through basic collections care techniques for objects and archival materials. Project integration may be tailored to a volunteer’s interests. Volunteers in this area are directly supervised by the Collections Department staff during weekday hours.

Craftsmanship

Do you have a knack for woodworking? Minnetrista houses a fully equipped woodshop and is always welcoming volunteers to help build exhibits or fulfill other hand created demands. Do you enjoy painting, welding or have other specific skills you would like to contribute to Minnetrista? We have many one-of-a-kind projects where specialized talents of others enhance the Minnetrista experience.
