Home Movies

Most people cringe when they hear the phrase “home movies”, imagining hours of boring vacation footage taken by relatives who think they had the most unique and interesting adventures ever experienced.  But sometimes these films can offer insight to family stories and provide great research opportunities when they depict events, locations, or family members that are no longer with us.

Such is the case with a collection of home movies from the Frank C. Ball family.  Consisting of approximately 100 reels taken by several different members of that family branch, the movies depict a variety of locations and events in Europe, Canada, and many locations in the United States.  Throughout, these films document aspects of the lives of the Owsley, Bracken, Petty, and E. Arthur Ball families, Frank Elliott Ball, and Frank C. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Brady Ball from the late 1920’s to the mid-1950’s.

The following is a mere sampling of what the films document.  We hope to make these films available in the future for both research and viewing enjoyment.
