Muncie, IN—Minnetrista Museum & Gardens invites the community to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature through its upcoming exhibition, Open Space: Art About the Land, opening November 2, 2024, and running through January 5, 2025, in Gallery 3 of the Center Building. This exhibition, which has celebrated the artistic spirit of Indiana since 2001, showcases a diverse array of artists who draw inspiration from the land around us, highlighting the intimate connection between nature and creativity.

Curated by Mark Ruschman, emeritus curator of fine arts at the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, Open Space presents a rich tapestry of artistic expressions—from painting to sculpture—that honor the environment and its vital ecosystems. This year, the exhibition continues its tradition of collaboration with the Anderson Museum of Art, supporting Red-tail Land Conservancy’s mission to protect wild lands in East Central Indiana.

For the duration of the exhibition, Minnetrista Museum & Gardens and the Anderson Museum of Art are pleased to offer reciprocal memberships, allowing visitors to explore both venues and experience the unique artistic narratives presented in each location.

“Indiana is home to a great pool of amazing artists working across various media,” shares Sebastián Encina, Associate Director of Curation & Exhibition. “In Open Space: Art About the Land, their talents focus on the natural world. Through art, we support the preservation of the important ecosystems that are vital to the well-being of our communities and planet. Art for a cause takes on a more personal meaning when the land Red-tail Land Conservancy protects is our own backyard.”

Join us for the opening of Open Space: Art About the Land on November 2, 2024, and explore the compelling works that remind us of our connection to the environment and the importance of conservation. This exhibition is presented by the Joan & Stefan Anderson Fund.
