Muncie, IN—Minnetrista Museum & Gardens is delighted to announce that we have received an Arts Project Support grant from the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) for our upcoming exhibition, Imagine in Glass. This grant program aims to broaden access to arts opportunities statewide, particularly in underserved communities. Such funding bolsters our commitment to providing accessible programming initiatives that inspire creativity and foster community engagement.

“Art and creativity foster connection and cohesion, support the entrepreneurial spirit communities need to thrive, and help build the kinds of communities where people want to live, work, play, study, and stay,” said Miah Michaelsen, Executive Director of the Indiana Arts Commission. “In every corner of the Hoosier state, public funding for arts and creativity continually proves to be a high-return investment that positively impacts the cultural, economic, and educational climate of Indiana. It is a privilege to support the organizations building stronger Indiana communities through arts and creativity.”

Imagine in Glass invites school-age children from Muncie and surrounding communities to submit their drawings by September 1, 2024. Five student artists at Ball State University's Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass, under the supervision of glass artists and professors Jennifer Halvorson and Brent Cole, will select a subset of the drawings to bring to life in glass. Children with selected artworks will have a unique opportunity to witness the transformation process firsthand. While some pieces will be crafted through traditional glassblowing and torching techniques, others will involve glass fusing, where children may have the chance to participate in the creation process. "We are thrilled to provide children with the opportunity to express their imaginations through art," said Sebastián Encina, Associate Director of Curation & Exhibition at Minnetrista Museum & Gardens. “As we bring Imagine in Glass to life, we are committed to ensuring that our exhibitions remain deeply rooted in inspiring and engaging our youngest visitors. This experience showcases the remarkable collaboration between youthful creativity and professional craftsmanship."

Imagine in Glass will be on display from November 16, 2024, to February 9, 2025, in Gallery 2 of the Center Building at Minnetrista Museum & Gardens. This exhibition promises to enchant visitors with the beautiful results of blending children’s imaginative drawings with expert glass artistry.

Activities are made possible in part by the  Community Foundation of Randolph County and the Indiana Arts Commission. Funding for the Indiana Arts Commission and its programs is provided by the Indiana General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
